Carbon Fiber Europe, an industry alliance under the European Composites Industry Association (EuCIA), has announced that Aksa Carbon has joined as a new member.

With this addition, the alliance’s founding members now include Hexcel Composites SASU, Mitsubishi Chemical Europe, Teijin Ltd, Toray Industries, and the newly joined Aksa Carbon. Together, they aim to drive the development of the carbon fiber industry across Europe.

Dr. Axel Leuchter, Vice President of Carbon Fiber Europe and General Manager of Teijin Group’s EU Sustainability Division, commented on Aksa’s entry:

“Aksa Carbon’s participation not only strengthens our alliance but further enhances our collective efforts to maintain Europe’s leading position in carbon fiber materials and their applications.”

Gürcan Koman, General Manager of Aksa Carbon, also expressed enthusiasm about the collaboration:

“We are very pleased to join forces with Carbon Fiber Europe and EuCIA. As Aksa Carbon, we offer integrated solutions across the entire carbon fiber composite value chain—from precursor and carbon fiber to prepreg—combining engineering capabilities, technical innovation, and industry expertise. Through this alliance, we look forward to working with industry partners to further highlight carbon fiber’s critical role in enabling lightweight, high-performance, and more sustainable solutions.”

A Platform to Promote Carbon Fiber’s Value

Carbon Fiber Europe recently launched its official website (carbonfibereurope.eu), aiming to showcase the value of carbon fiber to key European markets, including aerospace and defense, automotive, wind energy, construction, and sports and leisure.

Driving Sustainable Growth

Established in November 2025, Carbon Fiber Europe’s mission is to promote the positive contributions and innovation of European carbon fiber products, while advancing safe and sustainable applications across the continent. The alliance focuses on four strategic pillars: advocacy and representation, sustainability and circularity, innovation and standards, and health and safety.

To put these strategies into action, three working groups have been formed to focus on promoting the carbon fiber industry, protecting industry interests in EU legislation, and developing carbon fiber recycling ecosystems. Carbon Fiber Europe has also joined the European Circular Composites Alliance (ECCA), launched by EuCIA at the 2025 JEC World exhibition.

Why This Matters

For engineers, manufacturers, and buyers working with carbon fiber, this development signals two important trends:

1. Supply chain consolidation in Europe
Major players like Hexcel, Mitsubishi, Teijin, Toray, and now Aksa are aligning under a unified framework. This means European industrial standards, sustainability requirements, and recycling mandates will likely become more coordinated—and more influential globally. If you supply to or compete in European markets, staying informed about these evolving standards is essential.

2. A stronger push for circularity
The alliance’s focus on recycling ecosystems and its membership in the European Circular Composites Alliance (ECCA) reflects a clear direction: carbon fiber is no longer just about performance, but also about end-of-life responsibility. For buyers, this means future material specifications may include recycled content or take-back programs.

At CarbonInn, we follow these developments closely. Our goal is to help you navigate a changing industry—whether you’re sourcing materials for aerospace, automotive, or emerging applications. Understanding where the industry is headed is part of how we support your projects.
